was named for Abraham Clark, a signer of the Declaration of Independence. The town was incorporated in 1864 when it was separated from Rahway. Its site originally was Lenape Indian Hunting Grounds, and Clark was a crossroad of the American Revolution. Its farmlands on the Raritan River have evolved over the years into a small suburban town in southern Union County.
Clark covers 4.68 square miles and has a population of about 16,500 and 5,700 households. The community has ready access to transportation and major highways. It is, in fact, bisected by the Garden State Highway.
Clark has two elementary schools, a middle school and a high school. There are also four private schools, including Mother Seton Regional High School. Clark has its own library.
