Metuchen

is located in suburban Middlesex County in the heart of New Jersey. Only 2.8 square miles, the town is named for the Indian Chief Metuching. With many tree-lined streets, a quaint Main Street and many playgrounds and parks, Metuchen is quintessential "small-town America." Population is about 12,000.

There is a public library, paid police force, volunteer fire department, three elementary schools (K-7) and a high school (8-12) with a total student population of about 2000.

Cultural and recreational attractions include Metuchen Cultural Arts Commission Forum Theater, Metuchen Country Club & Golf Course, YMCA of Metuchen-Edison, Senior Citizens Center and Teens Center.

Its post-Civil War suburban architecture is primarily Italianate, and also has good representation of earlier vernacular dwellings, and some fine examples of residential architecture from later in the 19th century. Many professionals, artists, literary figures and educators live in Metuchen.

It is easy to commute to New York City by train or bus, or to Newark, Trenton, or nearby Rutgers University in New Brunswick.
