David M. Weisbrod, White Realty Co., Union, New Jersey

Examples of David Weisbrod’s commitment to REALTOR spirit stand out throughout his twenty-one year real estate career. In the early merger discussions between Greater Eastern Union County Board of REALTORS and the Westfield Board of REALTORS, when GEUCBR President Anthony D’Agostino asked David to serve on the pre and post transitional boards, he willingly did so.

Because of his superior technical abilities and insights, David was also asked to be an integral part of the REALTOR fact-finding committee when the Garden State Multiple Listing Service was in its formative stages. To this day, David gets several phone calls each week from other REALTORS with a variety of technical questions in which he unselfishly gives his time and expertise to help solve. He has even personally gone to competitors’ offices to aid them with solving their computer problems.

Ever mindful of promoting the REALTOR spirit, especially to new licensees, he currently volunteers time at the Greater Union County Association of REALTORS teaching the Ethics orientation class. In the classes, his sense of humor and real world approach add life to an important, but sometimes tiresome class.

Formerly, a Certified Career Development Specialist (CCDS) national trainer for Prudential Real Estate Affiliates, David taught real estate courses in various parts of the country. He is currently a member of the Real Estate Educators Association.

From 1999 to 2000, David authored a real estate column, "Reality Realty", for Comcast Cable company’s web site extolling the benefits of REALTORS and exemplifying his REALTOR spirit. He continually received many e-mail letters from readers and answered every e-mail letter personally.

LOCAL BOARD ACTIVITY

David Weisbrod has voluntarily served his local board in many capacities during the past 16 years. He served the Greater Eastern Union County Board of REALTORS on their Board of Directors from 1986 to 1989. During that period, he also served as a member of their Award’s Committee.

Beginning in 1990, he served as a member of the Professional Standards Committee for the Greater Eastern Union County Board of REALTORS and conducted many local and inter-board arbitration and ethics hearings. David has also served on the Greater Union County Association of REALTORS Professional Standards committee until this year (2002) when he was asked to become a member of their Board of Directors.

When Greater Eastern Union County Board of REALTORS merged with the Westfield Board of REALTORS, David served on the transitional Board of Directors. He also served on the fact-finding multiple listing service committee.

David currently is an instructor of the ethics orientation class at the Greater Union County Board of REALTORS.

STATE ASSOCIATION ACTIVITY

In 1985, David Weisbrod was an instructor for the NJAR’s Graduate REALTOR Institute (GRI) educational program.

From 1986 to 1990, David served as the treasurer for the New Jersey State Chapter of CRB (Certified Real Estate Brokerage manager) where his duties included overseeing the finances of the chapter’s income and expenses and the issuance of checks and financial statements.

David continually attends the New Jersey Association of REALTORS annual conventions and seminars.

He has submitted his name to several NJAR state committees and is willing to serve when called.

NATIONAL ASSOCIATION ACTIVITY

By the mid 1980’s, with David Weisbrod’s commitment to continuing his REALTOR education, he earned the GRI designation (Graduate, REALTOR Institute), the CRS designation (Certified Real Estate Specialist) and the CRB designation Real Estate (Certified Real Estate Brokerage manager). He is also a member of the Residential Sales Council.

In 2000, David was among the first 500 REALTORS in the United States to receive the new e-PRO 500 certification from the National Association of REALTORS. David was involved in the inaugural launch of the program and completed the intensive on-line course in six weeks. During that time period, he provided valuable feedback to NAR to help them improve and enhance the e-PRO course for future REALTOR students.

David holds a real estate brokers license in both the state of New Jersey and in the state of Florida. To keep current with Florida licensing requirements, he attends continuing education courses periodically in Florida. In New Jersey, he not only meets the new requirement of completing the ethics course, he also teaches it to new licensees at the local board office.

Being recognized for his inquisitive mind and technical abilities, David was asked to be a beta-tester for two nationally recognized software systems. In doing so, he tested both Coopers & Lybrand Price Waterhouse REDS real estate accounting system and Super CMA Market Analysis software.

BUSINESS ACCOMPLISHMENTS

David Weisbrod’s determination is clear. After obtaining his Bachelor’s Degree in Hotel Management in only three years, he went on to obtain five post-graduate certifications at four different European Culinary and Hotel schools, including the LaVarenne in Paris, France and the German Wine Academy in Kloster Eberbach, Germany. He then went to work for Hyatt Hotels Corp. rapidly ascending to the position of Food and Beverage Director. David was instrumental in developing and implementing the business and training systems for several new Hyatt Hotels throughout the United States.

His business skills kept growing and when he became a real estate licensee, he attained membership in the NJAR Million Dollar Club for many years before becoming a manager at White Realty Co in Union.

David built his successful real estate career using the same management and training acumen that highlighted his hotel career.

David’s keen sense of humor and the honest, forthright and professional manner in which he conducts his business dealings has earned him the respect of those both inside the REALTOR community and the general public.

COMMUNITY SERVICES AND INVOLVEMENT, AND/OR HUMANITARIAN SERVICES

David Weisbrod’s willingness to give of his time and knowledge is well known outside the real estate industry as well. A twenty-two year resident of Union, David recently became a founding trustee for the Township of Union Education foundation. The foundation’s goal is to raise funds for special projects within the school system that are not covered by the budget. In June 2002, when it came time to honor the foundation’s grant recipients, David used his hotel and restaurant training to help prepare an outstanding reception at Union Center National Bank.

A strong believer in education, David has been involved for the past six years in White Realty’s program of finding and fixing older computers and placing them in classrooms within the Union school system, often using his personal funds to purchase updated replacement parts for the older computers.

Providing more than just computer help, David unselfishly gives of his time assisting Union teachers in many different educational endeavors. He digitally documented "Project Archeology" for Central Five School allowing them to receive continued funding. He has repeatedly conducted science experiments for many classes at Connecticut Farms School including the "Chicken Egg Incubation" project. He has participated in Kawameeh Middle School’s theater productions, including back stage management, prop donations and deliveries.

David recently participated in a fund drive for the Interfaith Council for the Homeless at Union County College.

Annually, David is called upon by the Township of Union’s Superintendent of Schools to act as a community liaison. He also attends the Mayor’s Advisory Council for the Township of Union.

David is an active member of the Fairway Civic Association and meets with county representatives on issues affecting the neighborhood.

David has also volunteered his time and knowledge as a cub scout Co-Den leader organizing food drives. He was an after-school basketball coach at Connecticut Farms School. For the past four years, David has been the head coach of White Realty’s sponsored team, the Red Storm (formerly known as the Jayhawks), on the Rebels Softball League. He teaches the team’s players not only the game of softball, but also the game of life.

OTHER QUALIFICATIONS OR COMMENTS

David Weisbrod is highly qualified for the honor of REALTOR OF THE YEAR. His unselfish devotion to all those he meets in life, whether a fellow REALTOR, a neighbor, a friend, or a child on his team, he is always ready to help.

The perfect example of David’s ability to train with patience and understanding is his Red Storm softball team. Most recently, in June 2002, after three losing seasons, David was able to instill confidence in the same group of children as he coached the Red Storm softball team to their first winning season. They won first place and the championship in the Rebel’s Softball League’s Junior Division. But much more important than the championship win, David was overwhelmed and at a loss for words (and to those who really know David, this rarely happens!) as his team presented him with a surprise plaque. The plaque reads, "For Coach Dave, We make a living by what we get…We make a life by what we give. Thank you for all your hard work, dedication and time. Presented by the Red Storm 2002"

This plaque says it all.
