is the fifth oldest municipality in New Jersey, founded in 1666 from Native American territory. It is located in Middlesex County.
Piscataway covers 19.1 square miles and has a population of about 50,500 and 16,500 households. The community is 35 miles from New York City and has ready access to transportation and major highways.
A lovely Historic District along River Road boasts homes from the 1700s. The East Jersey Old Towne Village is another wonderful site, encompassing 12 acres of original, reconstructed and replicated 18th and 19th Century farm and mechant community architecture, with lots of cultural and historic exhibits and programming. There is also several historical museums.
Piscataway has six elementary schools, three middle schools and a high school, with about 5,000 students overall. The town has four private schools, including one from K-12. There are two libraries and a Bookmobile. A campus of the Robert Wood Johnson Medical School is also located in Piscataway.
Twenty-six public parks adorn the town, which also has a soccer club, a curling club, a tennis program and a par-58 golf course. For its extraordinary recreational program ("still a place where youths play sports for free"), Piscataway was selected as Sports Illustrated 50th Anniversary Sportstown for the State of New Jersey by Sports Illustrated magazine and the national Recreation and Park Association. Rutgers University's Stadium is also located in Piscataway.
Piscataway also has its own Website.
