Rahway has a population of 26,700 and is one of the oldest settlements in New Jersey. Of historical interest is the Merchants & Drovers Tavern on St. Georges and Westfield Avenues, which dates from the 1720's and is the only four-story colonial inn still standing, now a museum. The Abraham Terrill Tavern (1763) is on the same property. Rahway Hospital is located in this town. New Jersey Transit trains stop at two stations in Rahway, with direct continuation to New York City. The Rahway School System has a High School, Intermediate School, and four Grammar Schools, as well as Adult School and Alternative Center for Education. The Senior Citizens Center is located on Esterbrook Avenue. The Rahway Public Library is located on St. Georges Avenue. |
